It's difficult for Australia to set fresh records.

The greatest achievements have long been mastered.

This is the team that has secured seven Cricket World Cups, plus six more T20 titles, and previously enjoyed over three years undefeated in 50-over cricket.

The alternative records, the ones sought by the peak baggers, are what's still available for a squad that has accomplished all there is.

That it took as late as Sunday's victory by three wickets over India for them to achieve their initial ODI chase above 300, taking back their record for the biggest in women's cricket's 50-over format, is, in truth, a testament to the pitchers that have represented Australia over the past 50 years.

It is hard for their batsmen to possess a record if not afforded the opportunity.

Finally, the consequence of Australia giving up 330 runs was captain Alyssa Healy receiving an opportunity to deliver her newest gem.

Then best known as the teenage relative of renowned former Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she first played in 2010 after Australia failed to win either of the T20 or ODI World Cups from the prior year and has experienced everything through 15 championship-filled years since.

A T20 World Cup win arrived three months after her bow and seven global championships have come from 10 attempts across formats.

The tough gloveman was present as well in Derby in 2017 when a last-four loss by India momentarily interrupted the successful run.

That loss "drove us to reconsider our benchmarks," Healy stated recently.

At the following one-day championship in New Zealand, Healy hit 170 against England in the final and was named player of the tournament. She ensured her country would not fall short again.

If this latest epic knock surpassed that earlier display remains open for discussion.

Many contend the argument supporting championship match pressure. Some might respond with the challenge that comes when confronting a historic chase and an enthusiastic Indian fanbase of 20,000.

What's definite is this hundred was far harder to anticipate.

The Christchurch destruction in 2022 came as she topped the run-scoring charts, but this performance came after six matches in India from the beginning of the previous month in which she had been unable to reach 30.

"If you've been watching me in practice sessions, it was a frustrating experience because it appeared my form was missing at all," commented Healy.

"However when you step out on the field, your competitive instincts take over and you simply focus on the contest."

Healy's fighting spirit has consistently been her key asset - and a priceless quality in succeeding legendary former captain Meg Lanning.

She was troubled by India's emerging talent Kranti Gaud in the previous month's ODI series, out to the emerging pace bowler in each encounter, but here that only provided Healy's inspiration.

A single was taken off Gaud's first delivery and after that the batsman was underway.

"A chance to play and engage in competition with her and simply enjoy myself in that aspect, somewhat inspired me," commented Healy.

She got to fifty in 35 balls - her quickest at a World Cup - and her hundred in 84 as she punished short deliveries, hitting 21 fours and three big hits.

Once she was dismissed her side required another 66 at run per delivery - an achievable target now requiring a leisurely stroll.

"Chasing 330 runs is new territory so I am glad we have the assurance to achieve that now," continued Healy.

"Ideally we won't need to repeat it but, should it happen, we know we can do it."

Those words will be the final thing Australia's opponents at this tournament want to hear.

Over the past five days a belief they will triumph from any situation has grown stronger - this victory coming after victory over Pakistan by 107 runs despite being 76-7 at a certain moment.

Next Australia play Bangladesh before a meeting with old rivals England in Indore in a week and a half, by which point a semi-final place may probably be guaranteed.

During that phase they left the previous year's T20 World Cup in a shock defeat by South Africa - a game Healy couldn't play because of ruptured tissue in her foot as she led her country for the inaugural occasion at an important competition.

So great is her will, she later said she wished she had played despite the injury.

But while she later admitted those fitness problems have pushed back consideration of ending her career, this championship is expected to be her final tournament as skipper in 50-over cricket and she is yet to win a world championship as captain.

Victory in India would bring her to the top of her ultimate challenge.
